Jacks or Better video poker
In video poker the edge hides in two numbers: what a full house pays and what a flush pays. Played perfectly, the 9/6 table returns 99.54% and 6/5 95%. Every mistake in what you hold loses more.
Every bet
| Full house / flush | Return | House edge | An hour at €10 |
|---|---|---|---|
| 9/6 | 99.54% | 0.46% | €22.80 |
| 9/5 | 98.45% | 1.55% | €77.51 |
| 8/6 | 98.39% | 1.61% | €80.37 |
| 8/5 | 97.3% | 2.7% | €135.08 |
| 7/5 | 96.15% | 3.85% | €192.64 |
| 6/5 | 95% | 5% | €250.19 |
With perfect play on every hand. 500 hands an hour, an assumed pace.
"House edge": the share of each bet the house keeps on average. No betting system changes it.
How it is worked out
For each of the 2,598,960 possible first hands, all 32 ways to hold are tried against every card that can come, and the best is kept.
The results are compared with the published tables of the Wizard of Odds, to the digits they print, and the dice games with a second, independent count of every roll. If a single figure differs, the page is not published.
