Prizes are the base prizes of a $2 play. Power Play, an extra $1 a play, multiplies every prize except the jackpot by 2, 3, 4 or 5, or by 10 when the jackpot is $150 million or less. It makes the prize for 5 numbers $2 million at any multiplier.

Draws: Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.

What 1 in 292,201,338 means

Playing one line in every draw, 3 draws a week, you would wait on average about 1.9 million years for the jackpot.

About 65% of winning plays win only the smallest prize, $4, twice what the play costs.

How the odds are worked out

There are 11,238,513 ways to choose 5 numbers from 69, and 26 ways to choose the Powerball, so there are 292,201,338 different plays. Exactly one wins the jackpot.

To match k of your 5 numbers, you need k of the 5 numbers drawn and 5 − k of the 64 numbers not drawn. That is C(5, k) × C(64, 5 − k) combinations, and the chance is that count divided by 11,238,513.

The Powerball is drawn separately, so its chance multiplies the one above.
